The needs are the motive powers of the behavior of all organisms, including the human one. They stimulate the vigorous activity represent themselves as the reasons of a behavior in the conditions of social development and an environment. The formation of need of youth in occupations by physical exercises in it basis is the high social, also is impossible to reduce its role only to corporal development, strengthening of a health and to struggle against the consequences of the hypodynamy and hypokinezy. The aim of this paper was to substantiate the role of physical culture in life of modern students. The analysis of the data of concrete-sociological researches has shown, that needs for physical culture of youth essentially vary depending on an educational level, age of respondents, financial state and of some other factors. The interrelation of needs with an educational level of the individual, its general culture and by character of the future professional work especially clearly is traced. True needs, purposes and motives for sports activity, and also its results determine the spiritual and moral shape of modern youth, as well as the level of culture of a society as a whole.
