    The sudden death in young people and especially in actively training and competing athletes is the tragedy for family and society. Many of the lost athletes have achieved a high level and during the long period of the life were the elite of Russian and world sports. The major purpose of sports medicine is the preventive maintenance of the sudden death for what duly diagnostics of the pathological conditions resulting in lethal outcome at occupations by sports is necessary. There is a plenty of researches devoted to the sudden death in athletes in various countries, since 80th years of the last century in the world scientific literature. The author tried to highlight the main reasons and the concepts in this area of sports medicine.
