The physical culture and sports always played the important role in the history of development of mankind. The physical and mental qualities of a personality were formed with their help within centuries. The lexeme "sports" has come in Russian from the English language, and the concept "sports" itself is one of ethnocentral in the English culture and it communicates in the social consciousness of native speakers with an entertainment and game. It is considered, that the word "sports" occurs from Old French "desporter", that meant, "to distract from work". However, if to go deeper into the historical development of a mankind as a biological kind it is possible to doubt of so modest role of sports in the life of a society. The concepts "sports" and "physical culture" became different, independent concepts, having different language objectification, the different cognitive contents in the Russian modern concepts area. It shows that in dictionaries of special lexicon they should be interpreted separately: it is necessary to specify their differential attributes peculiar modern language and to cognitive thinking.
