    The Russian state university of physical education, sports and tourism was founded in 29th of May 1918. The history of the institute is inextricably related with the history of Russia, its physical and sports culture during the most part of the XXth century. The university was the major educational, scientific and sports center in the area of physical culture and sports not only in the Russian Federation, but also all over the world from the moment of it's foundation and till the present time. More than 46 thousand of highly trained specialists in physical culture and sports were prepared in university from 1918. Since 1947 and till the present time more than 3500 foreign specialists from 115 countries of the world were prepared also. Numerous government awards and medals of the international sports organizations marked the work of the university. In 1988 it was awarded with the International diploma of UNESCO for the contribution to the development of physical culture and sports in the world. The university makes serious efforts for the expansion and deepening of connections with colleagues from other universities and scientific organizations, including the foreign one's.
