    The difficult social and economic position in the south of Russia, especially in Northern Caucasus demands more resolute and effective steps on preservation and development of physical culture and sports relief of tension in national conflicts. Under the proposal of the executive committee of Olympic academy of the South of Russia in 1993 it was settled to carry out annual sports games of peoples of Northern Caucasus. At the session of the executive Committee of the academy the representatives of republics, regions and areas -organizers of physical culture and sports made a decision on realization of the first sports games of peoples of Northern Caucasus in May, 1994 in Nalchik, the capital of the Kabardino-Balkarian republic. The author describes the history of games and the difficulties at their foundation.
