    The acceleration of the scientific and technical progress, the rapid development of physiology and wide spreading of physical culture and sports in our country have caused the occurrence in 20s of the XXth century of the new independent unit of the human physiology - sports physiology, though the separate works devoted to studying of functions of an organism under physical loads, were published in second half XIXth century. The author in details tells about the history of the becoming and the development of sports physiology in Saint Petersburg. The incorporated bases of sports physiology in St. Petersburg-Leningrad have the further development in the Russia and abroad and promoted the statement of the domestic priority of this discipline in the system of the world physiological science.
