    The author is a well-known expert of the theory of physical training in Russia, gives a brief representation of substantial problematics of the general theory and methodology of physical culture in the article. By virtue of a methodological function of the given theory, the author offers more careful study and research of the questions connected with theories and techniques of various kinds of physical culture. In these theories the basic orientation of their contents will carry not only theoretical-methodological, but also theoretical-methodical character. According to the author's opinion, nowadays the general theory and methodology of physical culture as a scientific and especially an educational subject is extremely necessary in the system of sports education (especially professional one in higher and comprehensive educational institutions) with the purpose of an expansion of an outlook and a change of a professional thought of the pedagogical staff, strengthening of their world outlook, the methodological and general-theoretical preparedness.
