During several competitive seasons (1998 - 2002) the author carried out a careful supervision and videoshooting of the movements of athletes on fast ski tracks of competitive distances. The repeated measurements of length and time of motion cycles, the rate of movement, the speed of movement of ski- orienteerers on the fast ski tracks were compared with outline diagrams, taken from video records. As a result of the comparative research and the careful analysis of the basic moments of the technique of the ski motion in slopes on fast ski tracks, the motion named as a "pendular" one was determined. The name "pendular" was taken due to the visual similarity of the full cycle of this motion to the movement of a pendulum. The mastering of the technique of movement by the "pendular" motion considerably allows to increase the speed of movement on slopes of different steepness.
