    The Department was established in 1930 together with the foundation of the Forestry Institute. 33 teachers work at the Department, 3 doctors of science and 4 candidates of science among them. Studies are conducted both in teaching-practical and lecture form. There function a number of sports sections for students and teachers . Annual sports-and-athletics meetings and various competitions are held. More than half of teaching and student collectives are involved in the university sports life. Sportsmen-students who became champions and prizewinners at international, national and regional competitions study at the university. Sports life holds one of the first places in the overall activity of the oldest institute of higher education in Eastern Siberia.
